When I decided to take up photography in 2014, I had no idea what I was doing I purchased a Canon 60D because that is what our honeymoon photographer used during our session and I thought, what a great camera! I can take awesome photos just like her! Don't get me wrong, it was a great starter camera for me, but what I needed to learn was being a professional photographer goes far beyond just having a great camera.
2014 2021
When I get my camera, I felt like I was looking at a NASA spaceship--That sucker was complex! So my next step was to learn how in the world to use it! I lived in Florida at the time and decided to enroll in a photography course at a local college designated to teaching students how to operate a DSLR. Thank goodness for that class and the wonderful teacher, because I wad given the guidance on how to begin my photography journey.
Now it was time to practice! I began setting up free shoots with friends. Once I built up some confidence, I began charging for my photoshoots and throughout the years, I learned TONS about lighting, posing, settings, background, editing and so much more. I have met too many wonderful families to count and many who have been there since the beginning to watch my progression not only as a photographer--Sincerely, thank you!!!
Here are photographs I took in 2014, when I was obsessed with photoshop overlays, clueless about lighting and still learning settings on my camera. These were all free photoshoots of friends and family. You have to start somewhere!
Fast forward to today--2021 was the year I decided to take my photography skills to the next level. I invested in a Canon Mark ii 6D, a 35mm lens, new editing software (Photoshop Lightroom), new scheduling system, recreated my website and signed up for multiple guides from a super successful Photographer that I have known for decades.
Here are some examples of my 2021 photoshoots:
